Livingness is going along a certain course, impelled by a purpose and with some place to arrive.
It consists mostly of removing the barriers in the channel, holding the edges firm, ignoring the distractions and reinforcing and reimpelling one’s progress along the channel. That’s life and that’s this org board. —L. Ron Hubbard
The year was 1965, the location Saint Hill. And with the Saint Hill Special Briefing Course in full swing, Mr. Hubbard’s researches had brought technology to a whole new plateau. More specifically, he had discovered the very core of the Reactive Mind and mapped its entire anatomy. Here was the long-sought breakthrough to achieve certain Clearing, resulting in both the Clearing Course and the first-ever Grade Chart delineating the exact steps upwards to its accomplishment for every being.
Moreover, and notwithstanding the magnitude of these achievements and what they meant to every individual being, these same discoveries had also revealed the answer to expansion and the accomplishment of planetary clearing. For what L. Ron Hubbard had discovered in the core of the Reactive Mind were purposes and cross-purposes, booby-trapped so as to aberrate an individual. Then, again, as a group or society is no more than an aggregate of its individuals, here too was the answer to aberrated groups and, more specifically, organizations. So broad reaching were these discoveries that what Mr. Hubbard next unveiled was no less than a Grade Chart for the Third Dynamic—the Scientology Organizing Board.
Transcending anything Man has previously understood on the subject of organization, the Org Board embraces the whole of life itself, delineating purpose, the alignment of purpose for each of its members, a built-in system of self-correction to prevent counter-purposes—and all of it paralleling the Bridge with each successive department representing an awareness level directly corresponding to those an individual ascends on the Grade Chart.
Here, then, is L. Ron Hubbard’s legendary lecture revealing the pattern by which to organize life itself.
People ask me these questions: “How did you ever think about Dianetics?”
Well, it doesn’t seem to me that it required much more than the cultural question itself—it has been with Man now for perhaps fifty thousand years: “What makes Man tick?” “Why does Man act as Man does act?” These questions are found in the oldest literature we have. —L. Ron Hubbard
Released on May 9, 1950, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health became an overnight publishing sensation. Immediately hitting the New York Times bestseller list and remaining there for 26 consecutive weeks, it was unquestionably the most popular book ever published on the human mind—a distinction it holds to this day.
So great was the excitement that, virtually overnight, some 750 Dianetics groups sprang up across the United States generating what was, quite literally, a wildfire grassroots movement. It also generated an unprecedented wave of popular demand for personal instruction from its author, L. Ron Hubbard. Consequently, and within weeks of the book’s initial publication, Mr. Hubbard was traveling coast to coast, lecturing to tens of thousands of new readers on his discoveries and their application. To provide for still greater numbers he could not otherwise hope to reach, Mr. Hubbard soon directed the lectures be recorded so they could be further reproduced for one and all.
So came his lecture to a packed Municipal Auditorium in Oakland, California. It stands today as the first recorded spoken word on the breakthrough technology of Dianetics.
Since then, decade after decade, Dianetics has continued to appear on bestseller lists world over with tens of millions of copies now in circulation. Moreover, the movement Dianetics inspired now spans every culture, across every continent, in over 50 languages of Earth.
As L. Ron Hubbard said in Dianetics: “You are beginning an adventure. Treat it as an adventure. And may you never be the same again.”
Here, then, is where that adventure began, an exploration into Terra Incognita—the mind.
The setting was Phoenix, Arizona, and yet another milestone. Specifically, Duplication, and its role both in the preclear’s ability to As-is and exteriorize and the auditor’s skill to achieve that result. Here is the Congress where L. Ron Hubbard unveiled Procedure 30, comprising three breakthrough processes: the soon-to-be legendary Opening Procedure by Duplication, Problems and Solutions and Granting of Beingness. Yet Congress attendees received far more than a mere description, with Mr. Hubbard delivering these processes to the group. No matter the rave results, the greater story was yet to come. First, with technology to reach every case, publication of the first Group Auditor’s Handbook and Group Processing as a mainstay of Scientology. Second, the breakthroughs of Duplication, resulting in processes to vanquish one’s reactive mind. And finally, the lightning advance to the full codification of technology from this era of development to the pinnacle of thetan ability. For within months L. Ron Hubbard had codified not only the Axioms of Scientology, but processes drawn from the very core of those Axioms that crack the very bottom rung of cases and reach to the accomplishment of exterior OT ability. This, then, is the Congress that bridges from theta potentials in Scientology 8-8008 to the state of OT and The Creation of Human Ability.
If a man is having a hard time in life, it’s because he can’t bring about a duplication and he himself cannot tolerate a duplication. In other words, he himself can’t be at cause and he doesn’t dare be the effect of somebody else’s cause. —L. Ron Hubbard
The story began eighteen months earlier. Having mapped the potentials and abilities of a being in native state—Theta Clear—L. Ron Hubbard published his findings and technology in Scientology 8-8008, the text for the legendary Philadelphia Doctorate Course. Yet if those discoveries had taken Scientology to a new plateau, their magnitude was such as to form the springboard to the ultimate goal. For as he viewed it, now that he could actually free a being, his task was to place that ability into the hands of every auditor—to the accomplishment of freeing every being.
Hence, in September of 1953, he convened the First International Congress of Dianeticists and Scientologists, providing the first broad scale announcement of exteriorization techniques. That Congress also announced a new Processing Center in Camden, New Jersey—a center he significantly described as a “clinic.” For not only would it serve as the center for processing the roughest of cases, it would additionally launch an entirely new program:
“So this Clinic will also do very, very advanced training occasionally and Clinical-type training (that’s very advanced training, that isn’t basic or fundamental).”
Originally called the Camden Indoctrination Course, it would soon become known as the 1st Advanced Clinical Course (ACC). Unlike Professional Auditor training already being delivered on three continents, full certification as a Professional Auditor was a minimum prerequisite for admittance to L. Ron Hubbard’s Clinical Course. And even at that, admittance was by invitation only—reserved for the best of the best in terms of auditors.
So began his next phase of research. Its goal was to develop and refine procedure until virtually any auditor could crack any case to the accomplishment of exterior ability. To that end, Mr. Hubbard would develop processes, test them on preclears directly and then provide them to auditors for their preclears. Next, supervising these auditors, he could observe their application in action, locate their areas of difficulty and—quite in addition to then being able to refine processes to make them even simpler—he could develop further training procedures to perfect auditor skill.
Such was the ongoing story of L. Ron Hubbard research and development that would unfold over the next twelve months. No sooner would he graduate auditors from six weeks of intensive ACC training than he would begin delivering to the next student body. And so they rolled out—the 2nd ACC, 3rd ACC and continuing on one after another. Training auditor after auditor, developing process after process and delivering lecture after lecture—within a year it would total more than 500 recordings of the day-by-day path of research and discovery as it occurred.
Organizationally, expansion was so great he had already established yet a new training headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. But the real word was technical expansion. For each new advance only seemed to escalate both the speed and number of even further breakthroughs. Combine it all with auditors graduating—and then spreading the word of results in their towns and cities—and by the summer of 1954, public requests and demands for yet another L. Ron Hubbard Congress were literally at a roar.
The timing couldn’t have been better. For more than just another “breakthrough,” he had once again reached yet another milestone from which nothing would ever be the same. Specifically, the role of duplication in a preclear’s ability to As-is and exteriorize. And just as important, the role of duplication in relation to the skill of an auditor in applying processes to that result with their preclears. Therein lay the backdrop to all he was to unveil at this Universe Processes Congress.
The setting was Phoenix, Arizona, where Scientologists from all corners of the globe converged, assembling in the Phoenix Theatre at the corner of Central and McDowell. And as Mr. Hubbard began the first lecture, Congress attendees were soon coming to hear not only the universal application of duplication to all auditing, but what he further unveiled as Procedure 30. Yet Congress attendees were to receive far more than a mere description of these procedures. They were soon to experience it, with Mr. Hubbard auditing those very breakthrough processes for the first time ever on a group basis. Opening Procedure by Duplication on all attendees was only the beginning, as he next followed it with the rest of Procedure 30—Problems and Solutions, Granting of Beingness and even several experimental exteriorization processes.
Yet no matter the raves from those in attendance, the greater story is all that followed in the wake of this Congress. For here was a turning point with truly universal ramifications:
- First, with technology now capable of reaching every case, the publication of the first Group Auditor’s Handbook and Group Processing as a mainstay of Scientology.
- Second, with the breakthroughs of duplication—the fundamental technology that not only makes all auditing work, but which resulted in processes to vanish one’s Reactive Mind.
- And finally, the lightning-speed advance to the full codification of technology from this era of development and to the pinnacle of thetan ability. For within months L. Ron Hubbard had codified not only the Axioms of Scientology, but processes drawn from the very core of those Axioms—processes which both crack the very bottom rung of cases and the uppermost realm to the accomplishment of exterior OT ability.
Here, then, is the Congress bridging from theta potentials in Scientology 8-8008 to the state of OT and The Creation of Human Ability.
If you find out where he is on the Tone Scale, you can tell how much responsibility he’s going to manifest, how much persistence he’s going to manifest. You can tell how he’s going to treat children. You can tell how he’s going to talk to you, how he’s going to listen to you. You can tell what he’ll do with a message that you give him to give to somebody else. You can also tell just rather automatically the physiological condition this person is going to be in. —L. Ron Hubbard
Man has long puzzled over the behavior of his fellows. Why do people act as they do? How can one know who to trust? Who to watch out for? Who to depend on?
It was the fall of 1950 and L. Ron Hubbard was crisscrossing the country, from Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Los Angeles to Kansas City, providing guidance and instruction to the rapidly growing Dianetics movement.
Yet at the same time, he was also continuing his search for the “better Bridge” called for on the final page of Book One. His next step in engineering that Bridge was to widen and strengthen it to accommodate all cases—specifically, to provide the means to access and crack any case at any level.
The key to this lay in Book One itself—the “Graph of Survival,” revealing a scale from death and ultimate pain at the bottom to potential immortality and ultimate pleasure at the top. With this as his point of departure, L. Ron Hubbard commenced an investigation into the underlying principles monitoring a being’s level on the scale—thus providing the means to raise it.
His ensuing research, conducted in early 1951 at his Palm Springs, California home, soon yielded a discovery of sweeping importance. In fact, it was there and then he revealed an entirely new view of Man as a Life Force (designated by the Greek letter theta) enmeshed in the physical universe of matter, energy, space and time (MEST). From this pivotal Theta–MEST Theory, all else began to rapidly unfold, revealing the complete manifestations of human emotion, character and behavior at every level.
Soon, that simple Graph of Survival had expanded to encompass all facets of human action and reaction, and thus came the monumental Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation. Next, Mr. Hubbard authored the comprehensive, all-encompassing text—describing in detail every column of the Chart and its use: Science of Survival.
Here, then, were not only the “simpler, faster Dianetic techniques” L. Ron Hubbard had searched for, but a breakthrough that would provide a new direction for the subject resulting in gains beyond even those envisioned in Dianetics.
To spearhead this advance, Mr. Hubbard established a centralized headquarters, accessible to both East and West coasts, in Wichita, Kansas. Dianeticists from across the nation joined him at the new Foundation located at 211 Douglas Avenue, which featured twenty-six rooms and a large lecture hall.
On 21 May, that hall was filled to capacity with professional course students eagerly awaiting L. Ron Hubbard’s first lecture, “Theta–MEST Theory.” In this monumental address, he described in full the central breakthrough from which the Chart and the entire technology of human behavior derived. Then in further lectures he built upon this foundation, exploring the ramifications of the Theta–MEST Theory in both life and auditing. Conveying a new perspective on the Reactive Mind by defining aberration in terms of ARC and the dynamics, he detailed how the discovery of the Theta–MEST Theory had entirely shifted the auditor’s emphasis. Instead of attacking entheta, the aim was to validate theta:
“You want this person to be as high as possible on the scale, validate him. And the way you validate him is to pick up the highest-level ARC which is available on this case, because that’s life.”
To illustrate the new technique, he ended with a demonstration session that provided a glimpse of its potential—relieving a preclear of a persistent headache that had been troubling the man for almost a month.
Next, following these initial lectures, he then wrote to all Hubbard Dianetics Auditors announcing the formation of a national practitioners’ group to both assist them and enforce the highest standards of auditing. To just that end, he convened the First International Conference of Hubbard Dianetics Auditors, in June, and at that Conference gave another landmark lecture on the Chart itself, “The Chart of Human Evaluation.”
These lectures stand as L. Ron Hubbard’s most expansive description of all that lay behind the Chart and its full application, providing the first accurate prediction of human behavior. Here, too, is the full explanation of what determines one’s position on the Tone Scale—and thus the means to ascend to higher states.
This is the story of how L. Ron Hubbard discovered the reactive mind and developed the procedures to get rid of it. Originally written for a national magazine—published to coincide with the release of Dianetics...
Originally written and published in national magazines to coincide with the release of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, here is L. Ron Hubbard’s own story of his developmental trail and two-decade journey to the discovery of the Reactive Mind.
Evolution of a Science contains the only account of:
- How the optimum computing machine—the mind—works
- How Mr. Hubbard discovered Basic Personality
- How the Dynamic Principle of Existence—SURVIVE!—was first isolated
- How wrong answers enter into the mind and are held down, giving further wrong answers
- How there seem to be “Demons” of the mind
- How the engram was discovered
- How Dianetics techniques were developed
That’s why Evolution of a Science is the story of the greatest adventure of all—the exploration that discovered the Reactive Mind and the technology to conquer it. He wrote it so you would know.
Dianetics revealed the previously unknown Reactive Mind that enslaves Man and the auditing procedures to get rid of it. But that was only Plan A, laying the groundwork for further research into life force. Here, then, is theta (life force) and MEST (the physical universe of Matter, Energy, Space and Time) and their interaction which is life itself. Therein also lay the anatomy of the Tone Scale and both the reason for an individual’s downward descent and the means to ascend upward. This book is written around the now legendary Chart of Human Evaluation providing a complete description of the reactions, traits and behavior patterns of an individual at any given emotion. By knowing just one or two characteristics of a person, you can know the rest—their entire personality, conduct and character. Then, with entirely new types of processing, one can unleash the full inherent theta potential of a being to move up to the highest levels of freedom. Here, then, are the fundamental breakthroughs that are the basis of the Grade Chart itself.
Among the subjects contained herein are:
- The Tone Scale
- The Basic Laws of Theta—Affinity, Reality and Communication
- The Dynamics
- The pattern, appearance, conduct and behavior of individuals and groups as regards Emotion, Speech, Handling of Communication, Reality, Sexual Behavior and Children, the Environment, Worth to Society, Ethics, Truth, Courage, Responsibility, Persistence and more
- The Basic Principles of Processing
- The Mechanics of Aberration
- New types of processing including Straight Memory and Lock Scanning—processing that frees an individual’s theta that is trapped in the Reactive Mind
- How to Diagnose and Audit any case
Science of Survival is the essential handbook for every auditor and the means to predict human behavior in life itself. And that’s why it’s the most useful book you will ever own.
“Every time we can remedy a more difficult case, we find that an easy case remedies faster.” To the end of remedying all cases, L. Ron Hubbard had made a breakthrough embraced by a single powerful word—Beingness. What followed was brand‑new data from Mr. Hubbard on Beingness Processing, enabling a preclear to be or unbe anything. Here is the key to halt the downward spiral and move a being from Compulsive Beingness to Self‑determined Beingness—and straight on up to Knowingness. Of no less significance were the training breakthroughs, with students learning not only what to audit, but why, and an auditor training approach no ACC student could have expected. Rather than theory instruction, he relayed the data by processing the group. That meant 48 sessions on subjects including the Second Dynamic, imagination, changing ideas, exteriorization and ownership. And with a meter, the E‑AR‑400, to demonstrate the basal metabolism test, Mr. Hubbard explained the relation between thetan and body as regards metabolism, with students checking their metabolism on the E‑AR‑400 before group sessions. When the 4th American ACC concluded, some 30 auditors promptly went to work in the field, generating miracle after miracle success by applying these breakthroughs from L. Ron Hubbard.
I’m trying to train some people who have sufficient understanding of the business of living, of livingness itself, so that they can achieve results just because they understand it, not because we had to draw a big map. And not because we have lots of processes whereby we can tell somebody, “If you’ll just walk down this particular game trail from here to here as a process, then your preclear will get well.” —L. Ron Hubbard
It was 15 February 1954 and L. Ron Hubbard was about to deliver an ACC like none other. So great was the advance of technology, so intense the excitement generated by the miracle results from graduates in the field, that applications for enrollment could hardly be met.
The 3rd ACC had just completed and, with the Hubbard Association of Scientologists now established as a permanent base in Phoenix, Arizona, Mr. Hubbard scarcely paused before starting delivery of the 4th American Advanced Clinical Course three days later, at 616 North 3rd Street. With a planetary population numbering billions of preclears, his focus remained as before: to undercut the level of training to enable any auditor to handle any case, and to undercut auditing techniques so that even “impossible” cases could be cracked by any auditor.
To just that end, Mr. Hubbard had already made another milestone breakthrough contained in a single powerful word which yet had vast ramifications—Beingness.
“You materialize things with your own beingness. You see this mest universe out here well enough if you are willing to have enough beingness to grant it beingness.”
What followed was brand-new data he discovered on how to remedy beingness in the preclear with Beingness Processing—processes to enable a preclear to be or unbe anything.
“There is the ability to be things in a self-determined, certain fashion. That’s one kind of beingness. Anybody can benefit by running this processing solely on a self-determined basis. He gets great certainty he can be this, he can be that, he can be something else. The next thing you know he’s freer and freer and freer to observe the environment, to be in the environment, he has less and less things which he has to fight.”
Then again, of no less significance were the breakthroughs as regards training. For what L. Ron Hubbard sought to instill in the auditors attending the 4th ACC was far more than the ability to rotely execute a process (even when that rote execution did bring results). Crucial was the auditor’s understanding—that he knew not only what he was auditing, but why.
As for how Mr. Hubbard would accomplish this, it was a training approach not one of those ACC students could have expected. Because rather than pure theory instruction, he instead processed the group in order to relay the data. That meant 48 sessions on subjects including the Second Dynamic, imagination, changing ideas, exteriorization and ownership. Hence, the students learned by receiving the processes and achieving their results, thereby gaining subjective reality that enabled them to use what they had learned to audit others.
In fact, so important were these Group Processing sessions to future research, L. Ron Hubbard insisted on no unseen variables that could obscure an analysis of case results. Therefore, instead of the customary practice of twinning students who were in need of repair or simply desired more auditing, he even set up rooms with newly acquired tape players so the students could replay the recordings of Group Processing sessions and receive them again—straight from Mr. Hubbard.
Then, after each series of group processes, he gave an overview of the theory that lay behind the auditing he had just given. Case in point: In his legendary lecture, “What Your Preclear Is Trying to Do,” he detailed the basic motivations of a thetan and how, by understanding them, an auditor remains in command of the session.
Nor was that everything this ACC represented in terms of the application of technical advances. For in the very first lecture, Mr. Hubbard instructed those auditors in something that is today an integral part of standard auditing procedure—a basal metabolism test. He used a small meter, the E-AR-400, to demonstrate the test while explaining the relation between the thetan and his body as it affects metabolism—data so fundamental to every successful session that no auditor or pc can be without it. More to the point of this ACC, that E-AR-400 sat in a room for every student to check and/or handle their metabolism before group sessions.
And all the above is only a glimpse of the priceless data in these lectures, now available for the first time, including:
- Straightwire—why it is the best process to run on someone who is exteriorized;
- Evaluation and Invalidation—their anatomy, how they relate to impact and loss, and the handling;
- Living—how it breaks down to beingness and communication;
- Aliveness—a man is as alive as he has hopes and dreams, and how to recover his ability to postulate the future.
When the 4th ACC concluded on March 26, some 30 select auditors streamed back into the field and eagerly put to use the auditing skills they had acquired. The impact of L. Ron Hubbard’s breakthroughs reverberated throughout the Scientology world, generating miracle success after miracle success into his Phoenix headquarters even before the next ACC began three days later.
While as if to put an exclamation point on the advances made, this ACC marked yet another milestone that truly stands as the most historic date in Scientology’s history: the 18th of February and the incorporation of the first Church of Scientology.
The simplicity of observation, the simplicity of communication itself and only itself, is functional and will take Man from the bottom to the top. And the only thing I am trying to teach you is look. —L. Ron Hubbard
For 2,500 years, Man has been wandering through a complex labyrinth. From elaborate myths about his origins to unworkable psychotherapies, his efforts to find a road out uniformly failed. Instead, unwilling simply to look at Man and discover what he is, such systems as he did evolve announced their defeat by claiming that raising an individual to a higher state was impossible. In consequence, not one technology emerged to bring lasting freedom to a single human being.
Against that long background of pretended knowledge, the effective knowledge contained in Scientology stands in a universe of its own, representing something distinct, unique and a first on this planet. For not only does Scientology enable the individual to achieve total knowingness on himself and life, but what makes that knowingness possible is the first-ever technology of observation and, specifically, of confronting.
Here, then, is L. Ron Hubbard’s watershed lecture revealing the crucial importance of Training Drills (TRs). Here, too, is the breakthrough that stands as the paramount role of a coach, summed up in two words: Do it!
Moreover, in this preeminent statement on what confronting means for Man, Mr. Hubbard reveals the one continuing stress in Scientology and, with that, the route to a total know.
There’s a thing called the dynamics. A dynamic is an urge toward survival. And there are eight of these dynamics. —L. Ron Hubbard
What motivates life? What motivates Man? Those were the questions L. Ron Hubbard posed when seeking workable answers to the problems of both the individual and society.
After examining the whole of life in its variety and complexity, he isolated a common denominator to all living things—the Dynamic Principle of Existence: Survive! Here was a watershed breakthrough in Man’s understanding of Man. For while “everyone knows” that life forms are surviving, survival as their sole motivation was a brand-new discovery.
How, then, did survival apply to Man and his everyday existence? By examining the full range and depth of his activities in the light of this new discovery, the infinitely diverse behavior of human beings all aligned and fell into place.
As Mr. Hubbard discovered, the Dynamic Principle of Existence actually breaks down into no less than eight separate but interdependent urges toward survival: An individual survives for himself (1); for the family and future generations (2); for the group (3); for Mankind (4); for all life organisms including the animal and plant kingdoms (5); for the physical universe of matter, energy, space and time (6); as or for the spirit (7); and of or for Infinity (8).
Moreover, as he further reveals in this lecture, so interdependent are these dynamics that a failure to work along any one dynamic can drag down the rest while, similarly, a concentration on a single dynamic will also injure the others. But an understanding and, hence, balance of all Eight Dynamics provides the path to achieving the lasting success and happiness that are the very essence of survival—for oneself, one’s family, one’s fellows and, indeed, the whole civilization.
This, then, is not just wisdom about life. This is life.
The historic Congress announcing the reunification of the subjects of Dianetics and Scientology with the release of Dianetics 55! Until now, each had operated in their own sphere: Dianetics addressed Man as Man—the first four dynamics—while Scientology addressed life itself—the Fifth to Eighth Dynamics. The formula which would serve as the foundation for all future development was contained in a single word: Communication. It was a paramount breakthrough L. Ron Hubbard would later call, “the great discovery of Dianetics and Scientology.” Here, then, are the lectures, as it happened.
Let’s find out how able a fellow can be and how free he can be. And if we discover this, we will discover immediately why research and investigation in the field of Dianetics and Scientology will continue to expand—because the direction toward ability is the only direction it has ever really had. The more able we can make a person, the freer he is. The more dynamics he is surviving along, the more beingness he is. And so we are able, if we pursue ability. —L. Ron Hubbard
In the fall of 1954, word spread that L. Ron Hubbard would be addressing a unique Congress—one sponsored both by the Hubbard Dianetics Research Foundation and the Hubbard Association of Scientologists International. The joint sponsorship was significant, for it signalized the reunification of Dianetics and Scientology, both physically and philosophically.
Before this time, each subject had operated independently. Dianetics addressed Man as Man on the first four dynamics, while Scientology dealt with all of life—embracing the Fifth through Eighth Dynamics.
With the relocation of the original Hubbard Dianetics Research Foundation from Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Phoenix, site of the HASI, Mr. Hubbard undertook to fully answer two questions in light of all that had happened since 1950: “What is Dianetics?” and “What is Scientology?”
And so, on December 28, 1954, a capacity audience gathered in Phoenix, Arizona, for the Unification Congress. It was described by the Journal of Scientology as “the most important thing that ever happened in Dianetics and Scientology events,” and the words were apt.
For Mr. Hubbard opened with the release of a new book, Dianetics 55! Here was the full redefinition and alignment of both Dianetics and Scientology, integrating four years of discoveries into a cohesive whole. Crucial questions about the nature of Man and life, originally raised at the end of Book One, had now been answered in Scientology with the isolation of the human spirit and the fact of exteriorization. This, in turn, shed new light on the true nature and source of engrams, aberration and the Reactive Mind, thereby coming full circle. L. Ron Hubbard therefore designated this new text the “Second Book of Dianetics.”
Thereafter, both subjects would advance in tandem. And to just that end, he revealed the next step—a breakthrough that would not only revolutionize auditing but the entirety of human relationships. That breakthrough was the previously unknown Communication Formula—exact principles that defined, for the first time, perfect communication.
In these lectures, Mr. Hubbard not only defined the application of the Communication Formula in session, but as regards an individual’s communication with others, with himself, his body and the physical universe. Those discoveries thus embraced and clarified the mechanics of games and entrapment, why the physical universe persists, and even why a being has a Reactive Mind.
So important were these lectures that recordings were extensively toured to organizations internationally to provide all Dianeticists and Scientologists the technology L. Ron Hubbard would later refer to as the great discovery of Dianetics and Scientology. For the magic of the Communication Cycle, revealed at this Congress, is the fundamental of auditing and the primary reason it works.
Here, then, are the communication breakthroughs underlying all of life.
